I remember my own first newborn session as a new mom - I was a mess (exhausted) and had no idea what I was doing.

Now I make sure every family I work with feels completely prepared and confident walking into their session.

The biggest mistake I see? Parents thinking everything has to go perfectly.

Your baby will probably cry. They might refuse to sleep. And honestly? That is expected with a brand new baby.

Here's what actually helps:

Keep baby awake for 2-3 hours before the session. It sounds impossible, but I promise it helps the session run more smoothly and helps me get those classic newborn poses. I always suggest bathing them to keep them awake and alert.

Wait to feed your little one until right before you leave home - they'll be drowsy and content for those peaceful shots we all love. Bring bottles or nursing accessories for mid-session feedings too! I have a nursing pillow and comfy chairs waiting for you!

Pack extra outfits for everyone because babies are wonderfully unpredictable, and sometimes parents get caught in the crossfire too. Also bring pacifiers, if used, to help soothe baby.

Plan for 2-3 hours. I know that sounds long, but newborns work on their own schedule. We take breaks when baby needs to eat or be comforted.

There's no rushing this process.
